WoodPlus 125 mm Multi-Material Cutting Disc for Angle Grinders

WoodPlus is a 125 mm multi-material cutting disc for angle grinders. One disc cuts wood, wood with nails, plasterboard, plastic, fibreglass, laminate and ceramic floor board. It is rated 12,250 rpm and marked as complying with EN 847-1:2017.

What it cuts

WoodPlus covers the list of materials that normally sends you back to the van for a second disc:

  • Wood — boards, battens, door frames, studs, floors

  • Wood with nails — reclaimed timber, old frames, pallets

  • Plasterboard — panels, cut-outs for sockets and pipes

  • Plastic — pipes, panels, trunking, plastic board

  • Fibreglass — panels and profiles

  • Laminate / parquet — flooring, trimming to length

  • Epoxy and floor materials — flooring work, repairs

  • Ceramic tile and floor board — cutting in, trimming

Fitting it and running it

The disc fits a standard angle grinder that takes 125 mm discs. Two numbers matter before you switch on:

  1. 12,250 rpm is the maximum on the disc. Your grinder's no-load speed is on its own label. Grinder faster than the disc — do not mount it.

  2. EN 847-1:2017 is the standard printed on the disc. It is the woodworking tool safety standard, and it is the reason this disc is allowed on nail-laden wood.

Then: check the disc for cracks before you fit it, keep the guard on, hold the grinder with two hands, and run it off the material for half a minute the first time. GUSHI prints four PPE reminders on the disc itself — goggles, gloves, ear defenders, dust mask. That is not decoration, it is the short list of what actually goes wrong on site.

Cutting with it

WoodPlus cuts by abrasion, so you work it differently than a toothed blade.

  • Let the disc reach full speed before it touches anything.

  • Feed slowly and keep the grinder square. Pressure does not cut faster, it just heats the disc and wanders the line.

  • Never lever sideways in the cut. This is a cutting disc, not a grinding disc. Side load is what kills it.

  • Support both sides of the cut when you are working on panels.

  • Cut from the face side on laminate if the cut shows. Chip-out happens on the side the disc exits.

  • Cut thick stock in two passes instead of one forced pass.

Dust, and why it is a dry disc

WoodPlus is a dry-cutting disc. No water.

The dust is the real issue, and it changes with the material. Wood dust is bad enough. Laminate and epoxy dust is worse, and plasterboard dust goes everywhere. Use dust extraction if your grinder takes it, and wear the mask. Take the disc off and clean it out now and then — packed dust in the rim is what makes a disc cut slow and burn.

What shortens the life of the disc

Same disc, two very different lifetimes, depending on these five habits:

  • Leaning on it. Heat is the main killer. If the disc is too hot to touch after the cut, you were pushing too hard.

  • Cutting curves. You cannot steer an abrasive disc through a bend. Draw the line and follow it, or make relief cuts.

  • Parking it in one spot. Keep it moving through the cut.

  • Long runs in hard material. Give it a few seconds off the material between cuts.

  • Ignoring the nails. It goes through nails. Every nail shortens the edge. On heavily nailed timber, expect to go through discs faster, and budget for it.

Common questions

Can it really cut wood with nails?

Yes. It cuts through a nail the same way it cuts through wood, by abrasion. The nail just takes more out of the edge than the wood does. On reclaimed timber, expect a shorter disc life — that is normal for this type of disc, not a defect.

Does it need water?

No. It is a dry-cutting disc. Water on a disc like this does nothing useful and only makes the slurry worse to clean up.

Which grinder does it fit?

A standard angle grinder that takes 125 mm discs. Check the speed label on your grinder first: if its no-load speed is above 12,250 rpm, do not mount the disc.

Will it cut tile?

Ceramic tile and floor board are on the list. For stone, porcelain slabs and concrete — those are different discs, and we make those too. Ask us.

Do you supply OEM / custom packing?

Yes. We produce to buyer specification. Send your requirement and we will come back with options.
